The Beginning of a Dozen Days

The Beginning of a Dozen Days

Okay so, putting it out there, this blog is going to be a journal/travel type thing. I will give small tips and explain places to go but I will not be a tour guide, I am going to explain my emotions and events that I partake in, so yah….As we begin our journey through the great land of Canada, we make a stop at Tim Hortons, which is a must for anyone who hasn't had the delight of trying their delicious iced cap. Turns out their iced cap machine was broken, so that was a bust. Anyway, we continued to make our way to the Toronto international airport, as it is much cheaper to fly out of Canada than it is in the US (TIP for anyone who is close to the border). There we will board a flight to Iceland. What I am interested to see is if it really is the land of the ice, I mean I have seen pictures but well I guess I will find out. From Iceland we will fly into Brussels, where we try to sort out our idea of ‘winging it’. That is kinda just how the Meyers roll, but it sure has its ups and downs. Basically we don't have any of our hotels/hostels/places to stay planned, except for an apartment in Paris. We have family in The Netherlands (Holland) so eventually we will make our way there. Little piece about myself, I was born there, my mom grew up in the North East Polder. Should be an exciting reunion, considering it has been 6 or 7 years since our last get together with the cousins.

So we get to the airport waaayy ahead of schedule, 3 hrs to be exact, an event that is unheard of for our family. Usually we are the ones they have to announce throughout the airport, saying that the door was closing and we should better start running. The airport itself is honestly one of the easiest check in, security crossing, and boarding experiences I have ever had. It was like no one was there yet there were so many people, but everything was quick and easy, and organized. Something I haven't seen in American Airports, like ever. Of course we had to stop and check out duty free before boarding, of course. How could we not, it is my moms favorite place to shop after all. Surprisingly there were no purchases made this evening.

We got to our gate and have some extra time to burn before we board for Reykjavik, Iceland. A very interesting name to say, I tried to pronounce it, but some of the people around me gave me some funny looks. I thought that I would find out the correct way so I went up to the counter, and asked the WOW airline rep. She laughed and told me that it was Ray-ka-ya-vick. Already I knew that we chose the perfect airline to fly. Having never flown with WOW or even heard of it, having nice reps was a good start. Even the flight attendants were fashionably ‘early’ and matching, the women in purple dresses and the men with dark suits and purple ties. They were all smiles as they passed us in the waiting area, and continued to board the plane. A plane whose name is Freyja (nordic goddess of love), she is the mother of the fleet, TF-MOM.  The on board experience was even better, we received a kind welcome when we entered, and observed a very clean space, very comfy looking seats, and much more leg room than I have had on other airlines I have flown. We took our seats and were instructed to buckle up and were told the usual safety instructions, as the plane made its way to the runway. Soon after they finished we took off, making great time. Up in the air we were offered snacks and beverages, with a small fee. I myself I ordered some tea. And then I fell asleep. I would say it was a very peaceful nap, well as much as it could be for a flight.

TF mom god...

……Anyways we landed in Iceland! But our trip isn't done yet, now we have a four hour flight to Brussels.
